Energy
is the life line of the economy and essential to sustaining a community. However,
it is now common knowledge that our excessive reliance on conventional energy sources, i.e. fossil fuels and nuclear power,
is causing serious economic, environmental and political damages. Global warming,
acid rain, nuclear contamination, depletion, energy insecurities and energy wars are growing realities of our future, threatening
sustainability.
In the face of this scenario, every action towards a transition to the
sustainable energy path is of critical importance. We need to “think globally,
act locally.” Solar Fenway is a grassroots expression of our active commitment to the vision
of the Fenway as a sustainable urban community. Vision and action must come together.
Through multiple projects, Solar Fenway will integrate renewable energy technologies into both existing and future buildings
in the Fenway.

“We are like tenant farmers chopping down the fence around our house for fuel when
we should be using nature’s inexhaustible sources of energy—sun, wind and tide.
I’d put my money on the sun and solar energy. What a source of power! I hope we don’t have to wait until oil and coal run out before we tackle that.” Thomas Alva Edison
“Never doubt that
a group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed it is the only thing that ever has!” Margaret Mead
